What is a weight plate?

A weight plate is weight in a round plate that you can use for strength training. The standard size for discs from 10 kg is 450 mm in diameter. In addition, most discs have a 50 mm bore that fits the most commonly used barbell bars. There are three types of weight plates that are commonly used. These are: bumper plates (full rubber), rubber coated discs and cast iron discs. You can find all three types for 50 mm barbells.

What do you use weight plates for?

As mentioned before, you can use weight plates for many different types of strength training. You can use them in combination with a barbell bar for a wide range of barbell workouts. For example, you can use them for: deadlifts, bench press, military press, squats and much more. In addition, you can also use them as weight at different power stations. These machines are ‘plate loaded’, which means that you can load them with discs. You can always use the discs on their own for strength training. With plates of different weights you can perform the workout at your level.
